Buffalo Sabres Fire Head Coach Lindy Ruff

February 20, 2013 Updated Feb 20, 2013 at 6:33 PM EST

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) The Buffalo Sabres gave Lindy Ruff his walking papers Wednesday afternoon.

Ruff was in his 15th season as head coach of the Sabres organization. He also played for the team during his time as a defenseman in the NHL, drafted by the Sabres in the second round in 1979.

The Sabres organization has faced scrutiny by fans during this lockout-shortened season, currently sitting at the bottom of their division with just 13 points; they are ten points behind first-place Montreal.

The Sabres' front office has not yet announced a replacement for Ruff.
Eyewitness Sports Director Jeff Russo and anchor Shawn Stepner will have the latest on Eyewitness News at 5 & 6.
