With southern New England poised to have the first offshore wind farm in the nation,?Metcalf Institute will hold a public lecture on Thursday, March 14, at 3:30 p.m. by?Philip Warburg, author of Harvest the Wind: America?s Journey to Jobs, Energy Independence, and Climate Stability.
?
Warburg, former president of the?Conservation Law Foundation, will describe his own journey to witness wind power?s dramatic ascent across the American heartland. ?From the Kansas prairie and the cornfields of Iowa to the eastern slopes of the Rockies, he will describe the ways in which wind farms have begun to transform America?s energy economy. ?While introducing the farmers, factory workers, and high-tech entrepreneurs who are moving wind technology forward, he will also delve into some of the environmental challenges we face as wind power scales up to supply a third or more of America?s electricity.
?
The lecture, which will take place at the?University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography?s Narragansett Bay Campus in the?Coastal Institute Auditorium, is free and open to the public.
