Wife of Scottish oil worker taken hostage in Algeria appeals for his safe return

THE wife of a Scots oil worker pleaded for his safe return home last night as the Algerian hostage crisis turned into a bloodbath.

MARK GRANT, 29, from Grangemouth, is believed to have been among the foreign nationals taken hostage at the gas plant.

The dad-of-one is now thought to be with the Algerian army - but it is unknown if he was freed, rescued by Algerian forces, or managed to escape.

His wife last night begged for him to get in touch as an Afghan army attack left up to 35 hostages and terrorists dead.

She said: ?Please, I just want him to come home safe.?

Tearful Emma, 30, added: ?We?ve got a little girl to think about.?

Speaking on the doorstep of the couple?s ?250,000 detached home in Grangemouth, Stirlingshire, she explained that she had spoken to her husband on Wednesday.

Although this was after the attack, she revealed she had heard nothing since.

She said: ?I haven?t heard from him since yesterday. I just want him to come home safe.?

Mark is employed by BP as a project services contracts administrator, having taken up the role more than two and a half years ago.

He had previously worked as a site quantity surveyor with Shell for more than a year and a half before his switch to the In Amenas project.

He married wife Emma in a ceremony at Glenbervie House Hotel, Larbet, in March 2010.

Last night Sales administrator Emma was being comforted by friends and relatives.

Her sister, Sabrina Johnston, 33, said: ?We?re still waiting for information ourselves- we still don?t know what?s happening so I wouldn?t like to comment.?

But a former neighbour of the Grants, who asked not to be named, said she was ?praying? for his safe return.

She said: ?You couldn?t meet a nicer family- Mark and Emma are lovely, lovely people.

?They only recently got married - I was at their wedding. I was so shocked when I heard the news.

?I?m just praying that he?s alive and can be reunited with his wife soon. My thoughts are with the entire family.?
